Ghana Holiday

A holiday in Ghana will be an unforgetable experience.

Here are some places you must see when visiting this exciting country.

Accra

Accra, the capital of Ghana, is located at the Atlantic Ocean. Accra is the political and and economic center of Ghana. While in Accra you can visit the National Museum, the Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Central Library. Also interesting is castle Christiansborg that was built by the Danish in the 17th century.

Atlantic Coast

Old slave-trading forts and fishing villages, a new nature reserve and low prices. This is what you'll find at the coastal area west of Accra. Here you can visit 15 forts and castles and actually sleep in several, at a very reasonable price. The village of Senya Beraku has some great beaches and friendly folk. Its big attractions are Fort Good Hope (1706) and the surfing beaches at nearby Fete.

Mole National Park

Mole National Park is situated in the heart of the Guinea savannah woodland ecosystem. It is the largest of Ghana's National Parks. Mole National Park is home to 93 mammalian species, 33 reptiles, 9 amphibians and an estimated 300 birds species. The mammals include some 600 elephants, 2,000 roan antelopes, 3,000 hartebeests, 4,000 waterbucks, 5,000 buffalo and some 6,000 warthogs. Uncounted lions, leopards, hyenas and various primates can also be seen in the park.

Aburi Botanic Gardens

About one hour’s drive from Accra you can visit the Aburi Botanical Gardens. These gardens offer a rich collection of tropical flora, which attracts scores of birds and butterflies. The gardens were originally created in 1890 as an agricultural research station and a habitat for plants from around the world. The gardens also have pleasant restaurants and facilities for staying overnight.

Kakum National Park

The Kakum National Park was established in 1932 and officially opened to the public in 1994. The park covers an area of 357 km2 and is comprised of mostly undisturbed virgin rainforest. Special walking tours through the forest provide the opportunity to see much of Ghana’s indigenous plant life, as well as rare butterflies, birds and game.
